In a post Wednesday, Lara talked about discussing the possible price of a sweater she made with a curious woman. She ended her post by saying "Frankly, I'm wondering if a better answer next time might be, 'I knit only for love, not for money'."
So, let's talk about crafting for love. Nearly two years ago a friend got pregnant with her first child and a mutual friend asked if I'd make a blanket. Because the woman was expecting a girl, I went CRAZY crocheting the blanket and matching sweaters and a hat and booties.
In February, the same friend gave birth to a second, beautiful daughter. I had planned to make something for this baby, and hoped to approximate the same ensemble I made for baby number one.
I finally made delivery of the gift recently and I'm happy to say my timing was decent and the gifts well-received. The baby, Sophia, was due to have her 100 days photo taken soon and my friend was glad to have a hat and sweater in a different color than her older daughter's.
It seems my friend was afraid that years from now, while her daughters were going through family photos, they would have to fight over whose pictures were whose if they wore the same hat and sweater. She was grateful for the customized gift and I was happy to have made it and that it was appreciated.
