The Hoosiers squandered another double-digit lead, falling at Iowa 42-24 Saturday. IU led by 14 at halftime and 10 entering the fourth quarter. The Hoosiers intercepted five passes but couldn’t capitalize on enough of them as they wasted another chance for a signature win.
“We won the turnovers, they won the big plays and as a result the big plays were more important than the turnovers in this particular game,” IU coach Bill Lynch said.
The officials made questionable calls on replay reviews. And Tyler Sash’s 86-yard interception return for a touchdown is about the wackiest play you will see. But the Hoosiers lost this game because of a fourth-quarter Iowa onslaught. The Hawkeyes scored on pass plays of of 92 and 66 yards early in the final quarter. Iowa outscored Indiana 28-0 in the fourth.
Just like the Northwestern and Michigan games, the Hoosiers will have to settle with coming close in a conference road game.
