Senator to speak at Grand Wayne

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will make her second stop in the Summit City on Saturday, her campaign announced Monday.

The Democratic presidential hopeful, originally slated to visit Thursday, will speak at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grand Wayne Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd.

The stop is part of Clinton’s “Solutions for the American Economy” tour, which is also heading to Bloomington, Gary, East Chicago and South Bend.

The local campaign is offering people the chance for VIP seats by volunteering for the campaign this week. People interested are asked to call 745-0183.

Clinton last visited Fort Wayne on March 28 with a stop at Sara’s Family Restaurant.

Her supporters previously told Clinton’s campaign manager they wanted a larger rally to show their support.

Clinton’s husband, former President Clinton, has visited northeast Indiana twice, and daughter Chelsea Clinton visited Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne last week.

Clinton’s rival for the Democratic nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, visited Wayne High School on April 4.

Obama will travel today to Evansville, where he plans to speak during a night rally at Roberts Stadium, his campaign announced. Hoosier rocker John Mellencamp will perform during the event, The Associated Press reported.

Obama will have a town hall meeting Wednesday at Indiana University-Southeast in New Albany, his campaign announced.
