Improved Broadway will enhance downtown

General Electric’s lights on Broadway might have dimmed in recent years, but the Fort Wayne merchants who do business there have a promising plan to light up the near-downtown corridor once again.

A 2-mile-long stretch of Broadway has been designated a “destination spot” by area merchants who recently announced improvements and changes at several existing businesses. The city of Fort Wayne has been improving sidewalks on Broadway and has made façade renovation grants available in the area.

The heart of the corridor is the busy intersection of Broadway and Taylor, where Mad Anthony Brewing Co. will undergo a façade makeover and add an outdoor beer garden. George’s International Grocery and George’s La Baguette International Bakery will also receive façade renovations. Metro Real Estate, at Broadway and Michigan, is in line for interior and exterior renovation. The Design Factore will relocate to the building.

Farther south on Broadway, Chappell’s Coral Grill & Seafood Market will be renovated to incorporate Hartley’s restaurant, currently on Fairfield Avenue.

The Broadway upgrade will add another dimension to the nearby Harrison Square and Parkview Field project.
