Motorcyclist dies in Berry Street crash
A man was killed Thursday night after losing control of his motorcycle on East Berry Street just 200 feet from the site a fatal hit-and-run crash the day before.
Fort Wayne police arrived at the scene of the crash about 7:55 p.m. Thursday on Berry Street, about 200 feet east of Clay Street downtown and found a motorcyclist down. The man, identified as 44-year-old Scott M. Luley of Fort Wayne, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police spokesman Michael Joyner said.
Another motorcyclist and his passenger who were riding with Luley told police they were westbound on Berry Street when Luley lost control of his bike, ran into a curb and then into a wooden light pole, Joyner said.
Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, he said.
Luley’s motorcycle lay on its side in a gravel parking lot several feet from the street and a blue cloth covered his body while police investigated the crash scene. He was wearing a helmet, Joyner said.
The crash occurred about 200 feet from the site of the hit-and-run crash that killed 40-year-old Kimberly A. Swickard, of Warren, early Wednesday while she was on her way to work at Parkview Hospital.
Both crashes are still being investigated by police, the Allen County Coroner’s Office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
